Extension Lecture

The Department of English, Maharshi Jamadagni Government College for Girls, Pillukhera, organized an Extension Lecture on September 13, 2025, on the topic “Communication Competence: The 21st Century Power Skill”.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Sheoran, Head, Department of English, Government P.G. College, Jind, who enlightened the audience with her insightful reflections on the growing importance of communication in academic, professional, and social life.
Welcoming the resource person, Dr. Ranbir Singh, Principal of the College, highlighted that communication competence is not only an academic requirement but also a life skill that empowers students to build confidence, foster relationships, and achieve success in their chosen careers.
During her address, Dr. Sheoran emphasized that effective communication has emerged as a “power skill” in the 20th century, influencing leadership, employability, and personal growth. She elaborated on the components of communication competence, including clarity of thought, active listening, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability. Illustrating with real-life examples, she motivated students to practice continuous improvement in both verbal and non-verbal communication.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Deepak Kumar, Head, Department of English, who underlined that the objective of such lectures is to broaden students’ horizons, connect classroom learning with practical life, and nurture confidence among young learners.
The session was highly interactive, as students enthusiastically engaged with the speaker, asking questions and seeking guidance on practical strategies for improving communication. The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the enriching experience that left a lasting impression on students and faculty alike.
